‘Remembering the past’, 2017

The photographer spotted this man clad in simple attire, crouching on a street in the coastal town of Galle, located in south west Sri Lanka. The man’s gaze appears to have met with two individuals who are walking towards him. It is the silent interplay of shadows on the pavement that has fascinated the photographer, establishing an unexpected dialogue between strangers. In the scorching heat, the contrast between sitting still and moving forward, between activity and idleness, is telling enough.
