The photograph speaks of the spirituality that plays a predominant role in Sri Lanka. Most of the inhabitants of the country lead their lives based on the principles of devotion and worship, with temples, stupas, churches and mosques dotting the landscape. The lotus has great religious importance as a symbol of purity and rebirth, and is abundantly used in the decoration of sacred sites or as part of offerings.
