‘Tabla player', 2021

The photographer portrays the hands of a tabla player in the same manner as he would portray his face. Slender and soft, the contours of the hands are set off against the monochrome background. They evoke the intuition and passion with which the young man plays the tabla, one of the most widely used percussion instruments in Sri Lanka. The spatial depth of the image is due to the carefully orchestrated interplay of sharp and blurred elements and its subtle tonalities.
